 What is Education in a Christian School?

            In education we are concerned with the development of knowledge, attitudes, skills, and character by means of teaching, study, training and experience.  Christian education has precisely the same general aims, but it is based on the teaching of the Savior of the world and guided by the Bible.  It has three specific goals

  1. To lead the baptized child of God to a growing faith in Jesus Christ and to keep him in that faith;
  2. To help the individual develop into an even better and more perfect Christian in all of life's relationships;
  3. To keep before the individual the goal of every child of God - eternal life in heaven.

            The Lutheran Day School is the best agency for such Christian education because it provides for the total growth and development of the child.  The Bible describes such a complete education in Luke 2:52:  "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man."

            Five types of growth are included in the educational program thus described: spiritual, mental, social, emotional and physical development.  All five types receive daily attention in Bethlehem Lutheran School.

            In this total program, the Bible directs everything that the children learn.  It serves as the unifying and organizing force in the entire school program.  It gives the highest motivation for teaching and learning.  In this way, Bethlehem Lutheran School provides a Christ-centered education for all of its children.
