Bethlehem Extended CarePHILOSOPHY Extended care is a link between school and family that helps ease a working parent’s stress, while ensuring their child’s growth and wholeness. We try to create opportunities for interaction, input and shared learning, which includes a program that offers belonging and significance to all of its members.
PARTICIPATION Any student enrolled at Bethlehem School may participate in the Extended Care program. Children must be 3‑years old or older to participate. Children must also be toilet trained to participate. There will be a one month trial period for children entering Extended Care.
HOURS OF OPERATION The Extended Care Center will be in operation from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on every regular school day. On early dismissal days the Extended Care Center will be open only until 4:30 p.m. for families who have informed the director that they will need care. The Extended Care Center will not be open on school holidays or when school is closed due to weather or other emergencies.
ENROLLMENT FEE An Extended Care Enrollment Form and $25.00 Enrollment fee (per family) will enroll a student in extended care. This fee is used for supplies and materials throughout the year and is non-refundable.
COST The Extended Care Center is provided as a service to our working parents and therefore is paid for by those families who use it. Following is the fee schedule.
Extended Care costs are
broken into "Blocks" of time which will reflect a savings when compared to the
hourly rate of those who don't register for the "Blocks".
. The Extended Care Center closes promptly at 6:00 p.m. A late pick up fee of $1.00 per minute will be added to your bill if children are picked up after 6:00 p.m. If you anticipate arriving after 6:00 p.m. for any reason, please call the Extended Care Center at 708 456-8786 ext. 13.
Parents will be billed every other Friday. Payment is due by 8:00 a.m. the following Tuesday. A $5.00 per week late fee will be charged for each week your payment is late. A child will be denied access to the Center for lack of payment. ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE PAID TO THE EXTENDED CARE DIRECTOR OR TURNED INTO THE OFFICE. PLEASE DO NOT PAY THE EXTENDED CARE WORKERS OR LEAVE YOUR PAYMENT ON A DESK. EXTENDED CARE PAYMENTS ARE TO BE SEPARATE FROM TUITION PAYMENTS
PROCEDURES When dropping off or picking up your child please use the back door. You will find a doorbell right next to the door for the Center. For the safety of your child/ren: All parents must sign their children into as well as out of the Center each day. Parents must provide a list of people who are allowed to pick up the child.
SCHEDULE A definite schedule will be followed each day. A nap time will be given to children in PreSchool and Kindergarten during the day. There will be a planned set of activities daily for the children. Homework time will be scheduled for school children. The Center will utilize the neighborhood park and field for activities.
COMMUNICATION Communication and cooperation between home and school are important in the care of a child. Parents are asked to please keep the Extended Care director and staff informed about any changes in their child’s regular schedule or about any special needs or concerns that may arise. The director and staff will also keep the parents informed of any concerns that arise regarding the care of your children.
BEHAVIOR and DISCIPLINE The Extended Care Center is an extension of Bethlehem Lutheran School therefore school policies for behavior and discipline will apply. The extended care staff may discipline any student in their care when they feel it is necessary. The staff will also keep the director and the principal informed of any discipline problems and the principal and director may take further disciplinary action if necessary. The following guidelines will be followed when children act inappropriately: 1. The first time a rule is broken or a child acts in an inappropriate manner , a warning will be given. 2. The second time a rule is broken or a child acts inappropriately (does not have to be the same behavior) a time out will be given A) Time outs will be issued age appropriately (generally one minute for each year of age of the child). B) However the amount of time will depend on the behavior and the staffs discretion. 3. If three time outs are issued in one day, the child will not be allowed to attend extended care the next day. 4. Parents will be notified of inappropriate behavior so they will have an opportunity to discuss it with their child. 5. If the behavior continues, the Principal will be notified and a parental conference will be required. 6. If at any time while in extended care a child engages in severe, disruptive behavior which threatens person or property, the child’s parent(s) will be called to come immediately to pick up the child. In addition the Principal will be notified and a parental conference will be required. 7. Chronic disobedience or misbehavior will result in the removal of the child from the extended care program.
LUNCH AND SNACK Please send your child with a lunch including a beverage if they are staying after 11:30 a.m. Lunches sent from home will be served during the lunch hour. All children may participate in the Hot Lunch Program. Prayers will be said before and after the lunches. A milk fee must be paid if parents want their child(ren) to receive milk. Nutritious snacks will be provided by Extended Care to the children in the morning and the afternoon.
MEDICINE A teacher is permitted, but not required to administer medication (prescription or non-prescription) to a student ONLY upon the parent's special written request. A Medication Request Form must be filled out by the parent and all medication must be given to the classroom teacher when the student arrives at school. A Medication Request Form is included in this handbook additional forms are available in the office.
SUPPLIES We ask that each Preschool and Kindergarten child have an extra set of clothing (pants, shirt, socks, and underwear) in a labeled bag to be kept in the Extended Care Center. Each family is also asked to bring 2 boxes of Kleenex and 3 rolls of paper towels DIRECTLY TO THE CENTER on the child’s first day of attendance. |
