Duties of the Board of Christian Education
The basic objectives of this board are to plan and administer the educational
program of the Christian Day School and to encourage and support Lutheran
education at the high school and college levels.
In carrying out these duties the Board shall:
- Strive to strengthen the spiritual life of the Christian home and it's
members and equip them for Christian family living;
- Work to obtain, support, and strengthen qualified teachers;
- Contract teachers for a period not to exceed one year without the approval
of the Board of Directors as long as it has been provided for in the adopted
budget. If the contract exceeds one year, multiple years or tenure, it
must be approved by the Board of Directors before it is extended;
- Approve all curricular materials and programs and see that a Christian,
comprehensive, balanced, and functional curriculum is in place and in use.
It shall review and appraise the educational program on a regular basis and
plan for improvement on the basis of that review. The Board shall abide
by all rules and regulations of the State of Illinois governing schools;
- Work with the Board of Stewardship in developing plans to finance the
educational program;
- Work with the Board of Properties to see that the physical environment of
the school is maintained;
- Promote in any way possible Lutheran education at the high school and college level and
encourage individuals to consider full time church work as a vocation;
- Administer the Extended Care program;
- Administer the Ethel Garret High School Scholarship Fund.
